Demand more for animals in Quebec
The Ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation du Québec (MAPAQ) recently published draft animal welfare regulations. The proposed regulations represent some progress, but do not go far enough. Not only do they exclude many species but they also continue to allow dogs to be permanently chained outdoors for their entire lives, 24 hours a day. The proposed regulations would also remove some of the current protections for dogs and cats used in research.
Fortunately, we have until February 22, 2019 to convince the government to introduce stricter regulations that would truly improve animal welfare in Quebec.
