Montreal, July 9, 2014 – The Montreal SPCA in partnership with the Ville de Montréal are launching Operation Adoption, an adoption clinic for cats and dogs, to be held on July 11, 12 and 13 at the Montreal SPCA’s two shelters. The main goal of this event is to facilitate the adoption of at least 100 cats and 25 dogs over these three days.
During moving season, the number of animal abandonment at the Montreal SPCA can nearly triple, from about 600 to 1,600 animals per month. This year is no exception and the Montreal SPCA received a particularly high number of cats and dogs during the month of June. That is why we are organizing Operation Adoption to find a home for each of them.

As Canada’s oldest humane organization, the Montreal SPCA recognizes the tremendous value of working within a network of cities, boroughs and grass-roots animal rescue organizations to end the tragic overpopulation of dogs and cats of the Island of Montreal. Every day, our staff cares for hundreds of beautiful dogs, cats, rabbits and other animals. We work tirelessly to implement programs aimed at ending overpopulation and cruelty, strengthening animal protection laws and fostering a spirit of compassion for all living beings,” said Nicholas Gilman, Executive Director of the Montreal SPCA.
“We are pleased to reiterate our cooperation efforts with the Montreal SPCA in Operation Adoption. Each and every one of us should feel concerned with the fate of our pets. During the moving period, I urge Montrealers to take care of their animals. I hope that many Montrealers will adopt a pet from a shelter. This year, our administration will offer a $50 reduction to each person who adopts a cat or kitten, or a starter kit valued at $25 to each person who adopts a dog at the Montreal SPCA during the July 11 to 13 period,” said Anie Samson, Vice-chair of the Montréal Executive Committee, responsible for citizen services.
“Operation Adoption” invites you to visit the Montreal SPCA at 5215 Jean-Talon West, and the SPCA Annexe at 7314 Mountain Sights Avenue (one block south of the SPCA). The opening hours of the adoption clinic during these three days are as follows:
- Friday, July 11: from noon to 8 p.m.
- Saturday and Sunday, July 12 and 13: from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Montreal SPCA adoption counselors will be happy to help you find the right companion.
The Montreal SPCA would like to emphasize the importance of adopting an animal from a shelter. Adopting from shelters gives a second chance and a home to healthy animals, and saves lives.
