AN UNPRECEDENTED WAVE OF ABANDONMENT
During the first four months of the year, the number of animals surrendered to the Montreal SPCA rose by 21% compared to the same period last year, prompting us to work even harder on behalf of these vulnerable animals. This considerable increase can be attributed not only to the inflation affecting us all, but also to the lack of affordable housing for tenants with animals. Because of people moving, more than one animal a day is now entrusted to us at the Montreal SPCA.
Because summer should be bright for all
“The rising cost of living and the lack of affordable, animal-friendly housing is putting more and more pressure on the organizations, like the Montreal SPCA, that make up the social safety net, your donations not only help us to admit animals to the shelter and provide them with quality care, they also enable the SPCA to continue its advocacy work with governments to change the way we think about animals”, explains Anthony Johnson, Executive Director.
