The Montreal SPCA launches its matching donations campaign and offers gift ideas to help animals
Montréal, November 28, 2024 – Animal lovers won’t be left out this festive season! In addition to launching its annual fundraising campaign, during which all donations received by December 31 will be matched by the Bryant-Mapes Fund, the Montreal SPCA is offering a slew of gift ideas for the festive season. A unique calendar, children’s books and Poches & Fils clothing featuring one of the organization’s survivors: all these are great ways to help animals in need while giving pleasure to loved ones.
“We’ve been so busy at the shelter this year that it seems to have flown by in the blink of an eye!” exclaims Laurence Massé, Executive Director of the Montreal SPCA. “In the first 9 months of the year, more than 10,000 animals passed through our doors. The year 2024 will have been marked by an increase in admissions to the shelter, as has been the case for the last three years, unfortunately. Our teams put their heart and soul into caring for our many residents, in addition to pursuing our mission of education and mobilization to better protect animals in the province.”
Every donation is worth two
As the year draws to a close, the Bryant-Mapes Fund is committed to doubling the value of the donations received between now and December 31. For example, a $100 contribution to the Montreal SPCA will raise $200 to help animals. Making a donation in the name of a loved one is an original and supportive way to help animals.

Nearly 70% of the Montreal SPCA’s revenue comes from donations. The organization relies on the public to pursue its mission, and offers several gift ideas, including:
A calendar showcasing adopted animals
The Montreal SPCA’s famous calendar has a new feature this year: it showcases the winning animals from its very first photo contest! This magnificent calendar makes a great gift, and all profits from its sale help the organization carry out its mission to defend and protect animals.
Dig into your pockets to fight animal cruelty!
Angie, a young dog who was a victim of cruelty, was rescued by the animal protection officers of the Montreal SPCA’s Investigations Division. Her harrowing story and remarkable resilience made headlines, and she became the SPCA’s star animal! Thanks to Poche & Fils, you can now support the cause, since 25% of the profits from the sale of this line of T-shirts (featuring cute pockets!) will be donated to the Montreal SPCA.
Give the gift of reading with “Aventures au refuge!”
Give your children the gift of reading with the first two novels in the French-language “Aventures au refuge” series: Capitaine le Gourmand, the story of a sweet dog who came to the shelter, and Soya et la sieste (presque) parfaite, starring a mischievous orange cat. Every book purchased supports the SPCA and helps young children develop their compassion. Available in bookshops or online.
Enforcing the law
The SPCA is also responsible for enforcing the Animal Welfare and Safety Act and the Regulation respecting the welfare and safety of domestic companion animals and equines in 107 Quebec municipalities, as well as being appointed special constable to enforce the animal cruelty sections of the Criminal Code in the province.
“I extend my heartfelt thanks to our supporters for enabling us to rescue animals from neglect, take preventive action, find new families for those who have lost theirs, and change the laws to better protect animals. Every dollar donated goes a long way,” concludes Laurence Massé.

About the Montreal SPCA
Founded in Montreal in 1869, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (now known simply as the Montreal SPCA) was the first animal welfare organization in Canada. The SPCA has come a long way since: it is now the largest animal welfare organization in Quebec and speaks on behalf of animals wherever there is ignorance, cruelty, exploitation or neglect.
