Despite the success of our reduced-fee adoption week, a recent large intake of cats has once again caused the shelter to be at maximum capacity.
Right now at the Montreal SPCA, over 75 cats are waiting for a new home. To help our protégés find families soon, the SPCA is reducing the adoption fee for adult cats* to $50 for 15 days only, from SATURDAY, JUNE 15 TO SUNDAY, JUNE 30. * 5 months and older.

Note: To adopt a cat currently in a foster home, please fill out the form on the animal’s profile on our website. We will contact you if your profile matches the one sought for this animal.
To be able to adopt, please be sure to bring an ID. All cats have been examined, spayed or neutered, microchipped, treated for parasites and given basic vaccines.

Reducing or waiving adoption fees: a modern practice that's proven effective
This event aims to stir the interest of as many families as possible. It is also a way of giving families a helping hand, so they can invest the fee amount in the care of their new companion instead.
Some people may worry that reducing or waiving adoption fees attracts families who do not have the financial means to care for an animal or that it diminishes the worth of animals. However, recent studies have shown that these beliefs are unfounded. We have been keeping an eye on what’s being done elsewhere. For instance, in the United States, events of this kind have been very successful. The shelters organizing these special days did not see a resulting increase in animal returns. Rather, they observed an increase in adoptions!
It’s also important to know that the adoption process is the same: our counsellors talk with interested families to ensure they will meet the desired animal’s needs or, if necessary, they suggest an animal who is better suited to the family’s lifestyle.
