Animals in focus: a book, a photo exhibition… and a Kickstarter project

Montreal, December 6, 2013 – The exhibition Animals in focus was launched in October 2012 in Montreal. Since then, this exhibition of large format photographs, featuring a wide variety of animals from the Montreal SPCA, was displayed in different locations. Established by professional photographer Patrice Beriault, this exhibition presents the public with a new way of looking at the multiplicity of animals who are abandoned at the Montreal SPCA shelter. They include pets as well as wildlife, exotic and farm animals. Working from these displays, Patrice Beriault has undertaken the design of a coffee table book also titled Animals in focus featuring both photographs and text.

In order to ensure the continued existence of this nomadic exhibition and enable the creation of the book, we need investment. So we decided to join Kickstarter to fund the project Animals in focus. This type of collaborative funding (crowdfunding) provides an opportunity for anyone to finance projects while reducing the burdens associated with traditional modes of investment. For investors, it is more of a “support”, in exchange for which they receive rewards from the project team.

Our fundraising goal is to raise $26,000 in 25 days, that is until December 31, 2013. Note that if the goal is not reached, nobody pays. It is therefore an “all or nothing” system to avoid unpleasant surprises.

Your contribution to this project will help change attitudes, individually and collectively. To think about the fate of the abandoned animals and our responsibilities towards them. The greater your participation, the more numerous the exhibitions and the possibility to publish an art book inspired from this experience.
