(Montréal – April 25th, 2012) This Sunday the Clinique Vétérinaire Plateau Mont Royal [Plateau Vet Clinic] will be holding a free spay/neuter day for cats belonging to clients of the Mile End Community Mission, who otherwise would be unable to afford the cost of spaying or neutering their animals.
The staff at the Plateau Vet Clinic will be donating their time along with the location and equipment. A special one-time donation to the Montreal SPCA will be used to cover the cost of the materials. The SPCA and the staff at the Plateau Vet Clinic have been leading proponents of low-cost and no-cost Spay/Neuter clinics to control the animal population in Montreal. “Ensuring that all pet guardians have the opportunity to have their animal sterilized is the most critical step in controlling the companion animal overpopulation crisis in Quebec,” said Alanna Devine, Director of Animal Advocacy for the SPCA, “this spay/neuter day is such a wonderful example of the type of program that we need to see to encourage responsible pet ownership and population control.”
The Plateau Vet Clinic is very active in the community and is currently the primary veterinarian for four rescue groups, including the Montreal SPCA Foster program. They also offer accessible sterilization for feral/ stray cats in their community. “We hope that this clinic will highlight the importance of accessible vet care, which we believe is essential to ending the thousands of unwanted litters of animals born each year and to reduce the euthanasia rate in shelters.” said Judith Weissmann, Owner and head Veterinarian at the Plateau Vet Clinic, “the eagerness of the clients of the Mile End Community Mission to sign up for this clinic clearly shows that pet owners want to provide veterinary care for their animals.”
