EBOX Donates $50,000 to the Montreal SPCA!

Montreal, February 26, 2020 – The Montreal SPCA is most grateful to EBOX for its $50,000 donation resulting from its #EBOXGivesBack campaign held between May 27 and June 23, 2019. Through the campaign, EBOX sought to raise public awareness about animal abandonment around moving day and to support the SPCA in its work.

Mission accomplished

“We can say ‘mission accomplished’ and applaud the campaign, whose slogan was ‘Moving? Abandon your supplier, not your pet!’. In addition to the funds that will allow us to take in and care for animals in need, EBOX’s campaign provided the cause with fantastic visibility and raised public awareness around this important issue at a time of year when animal crises abound in Montreal,” said Élise Desaulniers, Executive Director of the Montreal SPCA.

Between May 27 and June 23, 2019, EBOX donated $5 to the SPCA for each new subscription to its Internet, television or telephony services, and $0.25 for each social media like, comment, share or post using the #EBOXGivesBack hashtag. Implemented all over the city, the #EBOXGivesBack campaign not only reached its financial goal, it got significant attention, thanks to a few influencers like PL Cloutier, Cynthia Dulude, Simon Leclerc, Jemcee, Sansdrick and Félix-Antoine Tremblay.

“EBOX is pleased to donate the $50,000 raised during the #EBOXGivesBack campaign to support the Montreal SPCA’s mission to counter animal abandonment and to thank those who have helped make it a success. This donation will provide animals in distress with the shelter and care they need,” said Jean-Philippe Béïque, CEO and chair of EBOX Communications.

Moving day: A crisis, year after year

In the months around moving day, the number of animals abandoned at the Montreal SPCA nearly triples, from around 600 a month to approximately 1,600. Many are given up for the sole reason that their humans were unable to find animal-friendly rentals. And the situation is likely to be even more critical this year given the affordable housing situation in Montreal. Though one in two Quebec households has a companion animal, only 4.2% of landlords accept tenants with dogs.
