Adoption Fees Waived This Friday, June 10 2022
IMPORTANT UPDATE: The waived adoption fee event has just begun and already over 150 people have come forward to adopt an animal! Because of the phenomenal interest in the event, we are unfortunately unable to accept additional prospective families. A big thank you to everyone who came out to give an animal a second chance. We are extremely grateful. Every day, the Montreal SPCA welcomes new animals of different species who are looking for a forever family. Please make an appointement.
Since summer is the busiest time of the year at the Montreal SPCA, there are many wonderful animals currently awaiting adoption: mostly cats, rabbits and other small animals, but also a few large adult dogs. To facilitate their adoption, the Montreal SPCA will be holding a special event and waiving adoption fees this Friday, June 10, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The goal of this event is to find a loving adoptive family for all our protégés. During the process, you will be invited to contribute in the amount of your choice to our mission with the animals. Our adoption counsellors will be happy to guide you and answer your questions.
As a prospective family, you will also receive information on the commitment and responsibilities you are taking on by adopting an animal. You can purchase food and many basic accessories at the Montreal SPCA Boutique.
Appointments are not necessary but, before coming to the SPCA de Montréal, please read the special instructions below. Please note that we cannot reserve an animal. Please remember to bring a valid ID (e.g. health insurance card or driving licence) to complete the adoption process.
- When: Friday, June 10, from 9:00 a.m. to 7 p.m. (the SPCA reserves the right to end the event before 7:00 p.m., depending on the number of animals still available.)
- Location: Montreal SPCA, 5215 Jean-Talon St. West, Montréal, QC H4P 1X4. Close to the Namur metro station.
Animals awaiting homes and special instructions
About 50 cats (including many elderly cats), 20 rabbits and 60 small animals, such as mice, degus, guinea pigs, turtles and rats, are waiting for a new home. Please bring a carrier or plan to purchase one at the SPCA’s boutique.
The few dogs available for adoption are mostly large and will be placed with families with members ages 16 years or older.
- These dogs have all undergone behavioural assessments to be properly matched with families and many will require follow-up in dog behaviour counselling.
- Please note that a second visit to the shelter may be required for the adoption to be completed. During this second meeting, all household members must come to the meeting, including children, roommates and other dogs. This step ensures that the new companion gets along well with all humans and canine friends, and it avoids unpleasant surprises back home.
- A deposit ($50-150) may be required to adopt a dog. This amount is refundable upon presentation of proof that an obedience course has been taken with a Montreal SPCA trainer or another RQIEC-, CTC-, CPDT-KA-, IAABC- or CSAT-certified trainer.
All animals have been examined by a veterinarian. Dogs and cats are spayed or neutered and microchipped, and get their first basic vaccination. Dogs also receive rabies shots. Rabbits are sterilized.
The Montreal SPCA is looking forward to your visit. Thank you for choosing adoption!
