Come get your animal microchipped for $20!
On Sunday, November 3, the Montreal SPCA will be holding its first Microchip and Treats event. The first 100 animal lovers to sign up can get their dog or cat microchipped for just $20.
The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at 5215 Jean-Talon Street West, at the Montreal SPCA’s Mittens Permanent Targeted Sterilization Clinic. Appointments are required.
Our team will make sure the experience is a pleasant one for your animal, offering them treats during the microchipping procedure, which takes just a few seconds!
During the event, the procedure will cost only $20. Payment can be made with cash or by credit or debit card. Please note that your appointment may take up to one hour. Thank you for your patience.
Important notes:
One appointment per animal
Bring ID.
Dogs uncomfortable with handling and/or reactive to other animals must wear a muzzle.
- Microchipping is not guaranteed. If your animal does not allow handling, we will not sedate them.
- On-site staff do not provide medical care.
- If the fee is an issue, please come anyway; we’ll take everyone with an appointment.

What is a microchip?
A microchip is a small electronic implant injected under the skin on the animal’s upper back. As small as a grain of rice, it carries a unique identification number linked to a file containing your family’s contact info. The microchip can be read by a scanner passed over the animal’s body.
Why should you microchip your dog or cat? First, because it’s mandatory in most Quebec municipalities, including Montréal.
But second, and more importantly, the microchip is like “identity card” for your animal. If a microchipped animal ever gets lost, the little implant can be read free of charge at animal services, shelters or veterinary clinics, and you’ll be notified your furry friend is safe and sound.
