No-fee adoption day this coming Monday, October 14

No-fee adoption day this coming Monday, October 14

In collaboration with Mondou and Purina® Pro Plan®

You are invited to our last no-fee adoption event of the year, which will be held this Monday, October 14.

October 14: come one, come all to the Montreal SPCA!

A great many cats (more than 70!), 18 dogs, 9 rabbits, over 20 small animals and around 15 birds are waiting for a second chance at the Montreal SPCA. We look forward to welcoming their future families!

What

No-fee adoption day

When

Monday, October 14, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Where

Montreal SPCA, 5215 Jean-Talon Street West, Montreal, a stone’s throw from the Namur metro station

  • The event will be held rain or shine, and members of the public should be prepared for a long wait (come equipped with water, snacks, rainwear, a folding chair, etc.).
  • Please bring identification and a secure, suitable carrier, or a leash if adopting a dog.
  • All the animals put up for adoption have been examined by a veterinarian. Dogs and cats are sterilized, microchipped, treated for parasites and given their first basic vaccination; additionally, dogs are given a first rabies vaccination. Rabbits are also sterilized.
  • Please be aware that there is no guarantee that you will find your new companion at the adoption event. It is best not to make promises to children, to avoid possible disappointment. We ask that you be understanding and patient. After all, finding your new best friend can take a bit of time!
  • You don’t need to bring all the members of your family with you when you adopt. Since wait times can be long, it is best for young children and dogs to stay at home.
  • Animals in foster families will not be at the shelter on October 14. To adopt one of these animals, please fill in your chosen animal’s adoption form.
  • We make every effort to serve as many people as possible, but we have no control over the length of the lineup. If your health does not allow you to wait outside for long, we suggest that you visit us at a quieter time.
  • Since we are an animal shelter and animals are not custom-made, we cannot guarantee what types of animals will be available on adoption day. Thank you for your understanding.
  • Don’t want to wait? Our adoption service is open 7 days a week! We urge you to visit us at a less busy time, such as at the beginning of the week and as soon as we open for adoption. Our standard adoption fees range from $10 to $550 and allow us to pursue our mission. The cost of a compassionate adoption ranges from $0 to $150.
  • We have a full team of volunteers for adoption day. Would you like to help us? We warmly invite you to click on the “Get involved” tab on our website to discover other ways you can contribute to our mission.
Although our peak season is drawing to a close, the impact of this year’s many animal surrenders is still being felt at the shelter, which took in more than 6,200 animals of various species during the first six months of 2024. It’s been a busy year for the Montreal SPCA, but its 200 employees and 225 volunteers are working hard to help animals in need
Thank you for offering them a loving home! ❤️

The cost of caring for an animal

For an adoption to be successful, families must first budget for the costs involved in caring for the animal they hope to adopt. According to the Association des médecins vétérinaires du Québec (AMVQ), the average annual cost of caring for a cat is $2,400; for a dog, it runs between $2,700 and $3,400; for a rabbit, it averages $1,500.
