has a real impact!

Together, let’s prevent animals from straying

We have been working for many years to resolve the causes of animal abandonment, which have been on the rise since 2020. But did you know that every year, we take in almost as many lost animals as those who are surrendered?

In 2024, only 12% of the 3,082 animals found wandering were reunited with their families, thanks to proper ID (a collar and tag or an up-to-date microchip) or having been reported lost on our website and claimed within the prescribed timeframe.

This year, the Montreal SPCA will be working to make sure more animals are properly identified. That’s why this month we sent an identification tag to over 30,000 people who have made a donation to us over the past year. We also held our first low-cost microchipping day last November, and we plan to make it a recurring event.

We need your help to care for all the lost animals we take in every month, and to continue our community work and outreach.

Your generosity deserves a medal

Would you also like to receive an SPCA tag for your animal? Make a donation of at least $19 and receive an ID tag while supplies last! All donations help animals in need.

Some kind-hearted neighbours rescued Summer, who was wandering the streets of Montréal. After keeping Summer for a few days, in the hope that her family would come forward, they brought this sweet pup to the shelter. Summer had no collar and no microchip…

Our teams worked hard to provide her with all the care she needed and were quickly enchanted by her personality. However, the stressful environment of the busy shelter soon took its toll on Summer’s morale. She who had been so lively and playful became less and less interested in treats and her joyful spirit was gradually fading. Fortunately, after a few weeks at the shelter, Summer was adopted. Her eyes can shine now thanks to your support!
